Citrine

Citrine is the yellow variety of crystalline quartz. Upon heating, iron impurities present in purple quartz (amethyst) are reduced and the colour fades to become yellow to reddish-orange in colour (citrine), the darker colours being considered more valuable. Natural citrine is not common and almost all material is heat treated at the mine. Hardness: 7 (Mohs).
