Black Spinel

Spinel occurs as a mineral in basic igneous rocks and comes in a variety of colours. Black spinel, also known as ceylonite and pleonast, is opaque, natural and untreated (unlike black onyx). Its extreme durability combined with high reflectance make it an ideal choice for everyday wear in jewellery. Hardness: 8 (Mohs).
