Lapis Lazuli

Lapis lazuli is a rock, specifically a contact metamorphosed limestone which contains lazurite. It can also contain pyrite (gold coloured flecks) and calcite (white flecks). The finest lapis is found in north-eastern Afganistan. Hardness: 5-5.5 (Moh).
